The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking aSenior Aboriginal Workforce Advisorwithin Aboriginal Workforce Unit.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians. The group works in close partnership with Victorian Aboriginal communities and is guided by principles of Aboriginal self-determination in the justice sector.
The Aboriginal Workforce Unit (AWU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Workforce Strategy (the strategy) and associated programs. The AWU provides ongoing support to Aboriginal employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AWU contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development, cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.
About the role:
Reporting to the Manager Aboriginal Workforce Unit, you will be responsible for coordinating key initiatives under the strategy and contributing towards the department's employment and career development goals under the Aboriginal Justice Agreement phase 4, and the VPSC Barring Djinang Aboriginal Employment Strategy.
The Senior Aboriginal Workforce Advisorroutinely provides written and verbal strategic advice on Aboriginal employment and cultural inclusion across all business areas of the department.
This role will regularly represent the AWU within the Victorian Aboriginal Community and continue to build upon our goal to establish the department as an employer of choice for Aboriginal people.
This role requires highly developed project management and/or policy development skills as well as strong written communication skills for the preparation of project plans, briefs and reports, and to contribute towards Aboriginal specific policy development.
As the Senior Aboriginal Workforce Advisor,you will have proven stakeholder management experience. Previous human resources or emp loyment program related experience is also desirable.
