The Colac Otway Shire is a richly diverse area located two hours west of Melbourne. Colac Otway is one of the most picturesque municipalities in Victoria, covering a diverse area from volcanic lakes, craters and plains in the north, through the hinterland forests of the Otway Ranges to the Great Ocean Road coastline. Colac is the key industrial, commercial and service center for the shire and surrounding region with a population of 22,370. Colac Secondary College is the largest state secondary school in the shire. It is an important educational hub for the Colac township and surrounds.

KSC1. Laboratory Knowledge and Safety Compliance
Demonstrated knowledge of safe laboratory practices, including chemical handling, storage procedures, SDS maintenance, stock control and compliance with OH&S requirements.
KSC2. First Aid and Student Care
Demonstrated capacity to provide first aid support in a school setting, including responding to student needs, maintaining accurate records, communicating with parents/guardians and exercising sound judgement in sensitive situations.
KSC3. Administrative and System Capability
Proven ability to use digital systems effectively to support operational compliance and administration, including experience with platforms such as Edusafe, eSchools ordering, Compass or similar systems. Demonstrated accuracy in maintaining records and processing documentation.
KSC4. Organisation and Time Management
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks, manage stock control and ordering processes, maintain equipment and ensure compliance deadlines are met.
KSC5. Communication and Teamwork
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, leadership, students and families while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Support science teachers by preparing, setting up and packing down practical lessons, including cleaning benches and workspaces.
Maintain a safe laboratory environment, including:
Chemical storage and handling.
Maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Management of the chemical register.
Safe waste disposal procedures.
Clean, maintain and organise laboratory equipment, glassware, consumables and storage areas.
Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
Receive deliveries and complete stocktakes.
Maintain accurate records for laboratory resources, maintenance and compliance.
Create and maintain displays within the Science building.
Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment by following OH&S and risk management procedures.
Ensure contractors working within the Science area comply with Department and school OH&S requirements.
2. First Aid Room Support [2.20pm to 3.20pm]
Provide first aid assistance to students and staff in accordance with school policy.
Accurately record all student presentations, treatments and incidents.
Monitor and manage students in the First Aid Room, ensuring appropriate supervision.
Contact parents/guardians when required regarding student illness or injury.
Coordinate student collection and sign-out procedures.
Maintain first aid supplies, restock materials and monitor expiry dates.
Assist in maintaining student medical records and care plans.
Liaise with leadership regarding serious incidents or patterns of student illness/injury.
Support compliance with Department and school health requirements.
3. General Expectations
Maintain confidentiality and privacy of student and staff information.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, administration and leadership.
Support school policies including Child Safety, Occupational Health & Safety and Emergency Management procedures.
Perform other duties consistent with the ES Level 1¿3 classification as directed by the Principal.
