The School Community Liaison Officer will support the school community to increase engagement, strengthen partnerships with Pasifika families and community, and facilitate activities that support student participation, retention and school completion.
The SCLO will work directly with Pasifika students and families and collaborate with school staff and community organisations to identify needs, develop culturally responsive strategies and connect students and families with appropriate supports and opportunities.
The SCLO will also participate in relevant professional learning, communities of practice and Department of Education activities associated with the Place-Based Partnerships initiative.
The role will contribute to regular reporting, data collection and evaluation requirements of the program.
The role may require travel to other schools, community locations, professional development activities and Department of Education meetings.

The Place-Based Partnerships to Support School Engagement and Completion initiative provides targeted support to strengthen the engagement, participation, retention and educational outcomes of Pasifika heritage students and their families.
The School Community Liaison Officer (SCLO) at Sunshine College will work closely with Pasifika students, families, school staff and the broader Pasifika community to strengthen relationships, improve engagement with education and support positive educational outcomes.
The role will contribute to the development and delivery of culturally responsive programs, activities and initiatives that respond to the identified needs and priorities of Pasifika students and families.
The SCLO will work collaboratively with school leadership, teachers, wellbeing staff, community organisations, Pasifika community leaders and relevant service providers to strengthen connections between the school and the Pasifika community.
Conditions of Employment
The successful applicant will be employed on a full-time, fixed-term basis at Education Support Class Level 1 Range 3 (ES1.3). The standard working hours are 38.0 hours per week. Working hours may be negotiated as appropriate to meet program and community needs. The successful applicant may be required to work some hours during school holidays to support planned community activities, programs and events. Where applicable, time in lieu arrangements will be managed in accordance with Department of Education employment conditions and school procedures.
This vacancy is specifically linked to Student Support Funding and is ongoing. If the funding reduces or ceases during the first seven years of employment, employment may cease subject to the provision of at least 12 weeks’ notice.
The School Community Liaison Officer will be based at Sunshine College and may work across relevant partner schools, community locations and other program delivery sites as required.
Sunshine College operates as a two site multi-campus school in North and West Sunshine with responsibility for serving the educational needs of around 1000 young people, employing approximately 140 staff. We are currently entering an exciting renewal phase in our teaching and learning practices and physical structure, including the opening of new facilities.
