Ascot Vale West Primary School is located in Melbourne¿s inner north-west, within the City of Moonee Valley. It is bordered by residential housing on two sides, with the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and Victory Park on the third. Directly opposite the front entrance are the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. Established in 1923, the school has a rich history and continues to serve a diverse community. The student population reflects the socio-economic and cultural diversity of the Ascot Vale area, which is a key strength of the school. A strong sense of community is fostered through parent programs and social activities, ensuring that families remain connected and engaged in school life. Approximately one-third of students reside in social housing, with many families being recent arrivals to Australia where English is not the primary language spoken at home. This is largely due to the planned redevelopment of the Ascot Vale Housing Estate, which has led to the relocation of families outside the immediate area.
The school embraces the core values of Responsibility, Respect, Inclusivity, and Curiosity. These values, along with guiding principles, create a strong foundation for achieving the school¿s vision. Teaching and learning at Ascot Vale West Primary School are guided by the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model and Explicit Teaching, ensuring that students receive the necessary scaffolding to develop their understanding and become independent learners. While Literacy, Numeracy, and Social and Emotional Wellbeing remain key priorities, the school is committed to fostering the holistic development of every student. The Wellbeing and Curriculum Teams work closely to support staff and monitor students and their families, ensuring that every child remains engaged in their learning.
