The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Safety Coordinator to provide a critical role within Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
The Safety Coordinator sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance (SWC) which provides process, systems, and services to support the department to meet its responsibilities under health and safety laws.
This role is based at MAP, Victoria's primary reception prison for men, responsible for assessing, classifying and managing newly remanded and sentenced prisoners to support their placement, rehabilitation and ongoing custodial management across the correctional system.
About the Role
As the Safety Coordinator you will provide support to the Safety and Assurance Manager to partner with the operational teams by coordinating, supporting and monitoring Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) including implementing actions related to A Safer Place to Work. The primary purpose of this role is to promote safety in a collaborative and informative manner.
You will work closely with Corrections Victoria staff and leaders to promote a strong safety culture by providing education, guidance and support across a broad range of workplace health and safety matters, including occupational violence, manual handling, slips, trips and falls, and psychosocial hazards.
The role partners with managers, supervisors, Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and staff to implement and continuously improve the existing safety management system, ensuring a consistent and proactive approach to risk management, compliance and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will support the delivery of operational safety initiatives, build strong stakeholder relationships, and coordinate day-to-day safety activities, systems and processes that help create a safe, healthy and compliant working environment across Corrections Victoria.
