The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Safety and Assurance Manager to provide strategic advice to senior leaders on health and safety strategy while improving safety performance outcomes at Barwon Prison.

HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon South-West Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.
About the Role
As the Safety and Assurance Manager based at Barwon Prison, you will advise and support executive and senior leaders to drive cultural change and improve safety performance outcomes while executing objectives under the Department's health, safety and wellbeing strategy together with health and safety laws. As an integral member of the leadership team and reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead local approaches to drive down occupational violence, embed processes for staff engagement and undertake proactive assurance and compliance activities to support practice integrity. You will champion the health and safety agenda for Barwon Prison and provide advice about the safety risk in a complex environment.

Qualifications/requirements
Minimum of a diploma in occupational/workplace health and safety and extensive experience is desirable. A full and current driver's license is required due to the need to work across different locations.
