Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated capacity to work with staff, parents, and students in the delivery of wellbeing services in a school context.
- Thorough knowledge of developmental and educational issues facing adolescents and demonstrated applications in a school setting.
- Knowledge of appropriate recommendations for staff and families to support the needs of individual students.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and clear communication both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in evidence based short-term counselling, deliver group interventions and provide appropriate referrals externally based on student needs.
Role
The school psychologist will be responsible to the Principal through the Assistant Principal (Wellbeing), Assistant Principal(s) and the Student Wellbeing Coordinator. In addition, they will liaise with Year Level Leaders, Year Level Engagement Coordinators and Teaching Staff to assist with the Colleges¿ response to the wellbeing needs of students and their families.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position will be:
- One-on one counselling support and other early intervention services;
- Facilitation of Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions;
- Crisis intervention and risk assessment;
- Coordinating supports (both within and external to the school) for students with critical needs, including proactively working with regions and other health professionals to engage further support as required;
- Completion of psychoeducational assessment of students on a needs basis;
- Supporting data collection processes to evaluate and feedback on school-based wellbeing programs and strategies;
- Supporting wider College staff in following Child Safe guidelines;
- Provision of Professional Development to staff on a range of student wellbeing and Child Safe issues;
- Consultation with staff regarding students on behaviour management plans, individual learning plan, suspensions and expulsions; and
- Maintenance of confidential files and records in accordance with professional guidelines, ethical codes, health records and privacy legislation.
