OVIC provides independent oversight of the Victorian public sector's collection, use and disclosure of public sector information. Our functions are set out in the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) and the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act).
As a Project Officer - Legal you will primarily have conduct of a caseload of matters under the FOI Act and/or PDP Act, including:
The role will also assist OVIC's Registry and Case Support, and Corporate teams to support policy review activities, register and maintain accurate records, and assist with document preparation and coordination.
This role is ideal for an individual who has recently graduated from, or is studying a legal qualification. The ability to undertake statutory interpretation, understand and apply case law and understand administrative law requirements is necessary.
The Project Officer - Legal requires strong problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills, with the confidence to manage competing priorities and stakeholders, while maintaining attention to detail. Well-developed research and writing skills, and the ability to prepare clear correspondence and written reports together with effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues will provide the Project Officer - Legal with the skills to succeed in this opportunity.
