The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
The Employee Safety and Wellbeing Division (ESW) is committed to the Department's vision to create healthy and safe working and learning environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.
The Division provides prevention, response and recovery, strategy, advice and support across schools, central and regional offices. This includes occupational health and safety (OHS) and workers' compensation, spanning physical and mental health and wellbeing.
The OHS Services Branch supports Victorian government schools to create safe and healthy workplaces by providing practical OHS advice, support and assurance. The Branch works directly with schools and regional teams to strengthen OHS capability, manage workplace risks and support compliance with health and safety requirements.
About the Role
The Small Schools Program (SSP) is a joint initiative between the Department of Education and the Victorian School Building Authority, providing practical support to 316 small rural and regional schools across Victoria to manage facilities maintenance, occupational health and safety, and return to work obligations.
The Project Officer will provide project support to the SSP, including project planning and reporting, stakeholder engagement, data collection and analysis, evaluation activities, and the development of project resources and documentation.
The role will work closely with internal stakeholders, regional offices and schools, including through face-to-face engagement and school visits.
This role requires travel to schools and regional locations across Victoria, and a current driver's licence is mandatory.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Project Officer with strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
The successful candidate will be able to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, manage competing priorities, analyse information and data, prepare clear project documentation and reporting, and work collaboratively as part of a project team. They will be comfortable working independently, taking initiative and identifying practical solutions to emerging project issues.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge or experience in occupational health and safety and/or facilities or maintenance would be highly regarded.
A Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety is desirable.
A current driver's licence and current Working with Children Check are mandatory due to the requirement to undertake school visits.
