Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.
Metropolitan Transport Division in Transport Services Group maintains and renews existing assets and plans, develops and delivers upgrades to the metropolitan road network, pedestrian, cycling, bus and tram infrastructure. We manage the metropolitan bus contracts, overseeing operator performance and asset management.
About the role
This fixed term role is until 9th March 2027
The role of the Project Lead is to lead the delivery of capital road projects using project management, contract management, and engineering knowledge to ensure compliance with agreed scope and DoT standards and specifications.
The role is to exercise independent professional judgement to plan, implement and monitor road and bridge works to achieve project scope, quality, cost, time, safety and environmental requirements in accordance with relevant policies and toolkits.
Construction sites are located throughout metropolitan Melbourne.

The role requires strong business and commercial acumen to maximise value and manage risks through sound procurement and financial decisions. You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret guidelines, analyse information, and take action to resolve complex issues. With a focus on project delivery, you will define and coordinate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure successful outcomes. Effective stakeholder management is key, building relationships, addressing issues constructively, and adding value for clients and partners. You will also contribute to developing capability by coaching, providing feedback, and supporting learning opportunities, while embedding knowledge management and business continuity practices into day-to-day work.
