About the role
The fixed term role is until 31/7/26
Operating under limited direction, this role plays a key role ensuring the Department of Transport delivers critical road projects. The role leads various activities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and achieve strict quality and safety standards. Reporting to the Team Leader Regional Projects, the Project Lead is responsible for providing expertise for project planning, design, procurement, contract development and execution of works, surveillance; complex stakeholder engagement; coupled with effective financial management.
The Project Lead contributes to developing and delivering project activities, supporting the strategic direction of the Department, and building effective stakeholder relationships. To succeed, the incumbent must drive collaborative relationships with municipalities, utility agencies, contractors and other Victorian State Government Departments.
The role is required to work closely with project teams to monitor progress and ensure successful delivery against the four elements of successful project management: cost, time, quality and stakeholder management. The Senior Project Engineer will successfully ensure compliance with legislative requirements, apply expert contract management capabilities and apply professional expertise.

The ideal candidate will build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, address issues constructively, and strive to add value across interactions. With a sound understanding of business operations and commercial arrangements, including vendor engagement, they will ensure accountability and efficient service delivery. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to adapt communication styles, understand stakeholder needs, and foster collaboration. The role also requires aligning daily activities with broader strategic goals, setting clear team objectives, and supporting others in planning for long-term success.
