ROLE SUMMARY:
The Program Officer Flood Risk Engagement supports the Regional Flood Risk Engagement Program by ensuring new flood modelling data is effectively applied to community engagement activities outside the Melbourne Metropolitan region.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program Officer works closely with Community Resilience Coordinators (CRCs), Operations Officers Emergency Management (OO-EMs) and the Emergency Management Planning Team to improve flood risk engagement at local, municipal and regional levels.
Through direct engagement with the Victorian community, key stakeholders and volunteer units, the role is responsible for enabling the development of local flood guides and other community engagement tools and programs to build community understanding of flood risk, preparedness and response.
The position needs adaptability to cope with competing priorities, strong collaboration and engagement skills, and an understanding of Victoria's diverse communities to support the delivery of evidence-based and effective engagement outcomes across regional Victoria. While non-operational, the role may have the opportunity to provide support during major or declared operations in line with accreditation or endorsement requirements and operational need.
WHO WE ARE:
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based emergency service. Our highly skilled and equipped Volunteers are trained comprehensively in a wide range of emergency environments. To minimise the impact of emergencies when they occur and strengthen the community's capacity to recover swiftly and safely, VICSES focuses on working with communities and partners in building resilience to achieve more aware, informed and prepared communities. We support them to understand their risk and the relevance of taking action before, during and after emergency events.
As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Parks Victoria and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) during major bushfire and emergency incidents.
