An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Privacy Officer to strengthen and support privacy compliance across the Department of Education, its 1,600 schools and growing number of Early Learning Victoria (ELV) centres.
The successful applicant will bring their specialist knowledge of Victorian privacy legislation and practice to provide quality privacy advice, support and engagement to corporate, school and Early Learning Victoria staff, and to support a broad range of departmental programs and projects. They will provide advice, review privacy impact assessments, respond to privacy complaints and incidents, and work in a busy and collegiate Privacy team to identify and address privacy risk across the department's activities and operations.
To succeed in the role, they will have excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of Victorian privacy law in practice, good writing and communication skills and a willingness to contribute to and enhance a strong team culture. They will also need to continuously build on their organisational awareness in the context of a large and complex department, schools and ELV centres.
As a member of the Privacy Team, the role achieves this purpose through a range of activities, including providing privacy advice on departmental initiatives, privacy impact assessment reviews, responding to privacy complaints and incidents, supporting training and resource development, and helping to identify and address privacy risk across the department's activities and operations.
As a Privacy Officer at the Department of Education, this role's purpose is to provide quality privacy advice, support and engagement to corporate, school and Early Learning Victoria staff, and to support a broad range of departmental programs and projects.
Privacy work intersects with many areas and functions, and the role requires engagement with key areas including information technology and security, legal, procurement, communications and digital learning. The team supports privacy compliance right across the department, including its regional offices and 1,600 government schools. Privacy Officers also engage with and support members of the public in relation to privacy complaints and incidents.
The Privacy Officer will demonstrate, apply and continuously develop their specialist knowledge of Victorian privacy legislation and practice, especially in government and/or education settings, as well as in the changing landscape of information privacy and technological innovation. They will work in a busy and collegiate team and use their skills in investigation, analysis and customer service with a compliance mindset to help the department meet its legislative and policy obligations around the management of personal and health information.
