An exciting opportunity exists for an senior privacy professional to strengthen and support privacy compliance across the Department of Education and its 1,600 schools, with specific focus on supporting the department's growing number of Early Learning Victoria (ELV) centres.
About the Role
The role achieves this through a range of activities including providing strategic and operational privacy advice on a broad range of departmental initiatives, managing privacy impact assessment reviews, responding to privacy complaints and incidents, leading training and resource development, and helping to identify and address privacy risk across the department's activities and operations. It requires engagement with The Privacy team works across the department's regional offices, 1,600 government schools and growing number of ELV centres, and also works in partnership with many other areas and functions within the department, including legal, procurement, ICT, communications and digital learning.
They also engage with and support members of the public in relation to privacy complaints and incidents. The Privacy Advisor will demonstrate, apply and continually build their existing expertise and specialist knowledge of Victorian privacy legislation and practice, particularly in government and/or education settings and in the changing landscape of information privacy and technological innovation. They will work in a busy and collegiate team and use their skills in investigation, analysis and customer service with a strategic and leadership mindset to help the department meet its legislative and policy obligations around the management of personal and health information.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
To succeed in the role, they will have a demonstrated expertise in privacy, excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills, good writing and communication skills and a passion for strengthening privacy practice across a large and complex organisation. They will also be keen to contribute to and enhance a strong team culture with a strong alignment with the department's values.

The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
