THE ROLE
The Principal Strategic Adviser, Office of the Deputy Secretary leads a small team that supports the Deputy Secretary, divisional executive and the broader division with accurate and authoritative advice and delivers key business functions in a highly sensitive and complex environment. The Principal Strategic Adviser, represents of the Office of the Deputy Secretary and acts on behalf of the Deputy Secretary to ensure effective operations and accountability of the division. The position regularly liaises with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and operates with a high-level of professionalism, initiative and collaboration.
The Principal Strategic Adviser, Office of the Deputy Secretary supports the Deputy Secretary and divisional Executive providing strategic advice and risk management, and aiding in the business management of the division, including budget and finance coordination, accommodation management, human resourcing, organisational management and leading project work as required. The role supports the division by facilitating the provision of consistent communication into branch and areas.
The Principal Strategic Adviser has oversight across a range of functions in the Office of the Deputy Secretary including the management and timely provision of strategic and complex correspondence, briefings, Cabinet in Confidence documentation, responses to enquiries and oversight bodies, reporting and ministerial requests. The role works with team members and key stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve divisional process and quality.
The Office of the Deputy Secretary is a complex and dynamic working environment. The role requires a multi-skilled, responsive, and proactive individual able to be flexible to changing priorities, exercising sound judgement whilst navigating complex stakeholder relationships.
The position will require a strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and principles of self-determination, as well as proven highly developed leadership, negotiation and relationship building skills.
