Our place within government ensures we are at the centre of legal change, reform and problem-solving. We operate as a service-driven legal professional practice and strive for excellence in this competitive environment. In all aspects of our operations, we aim to role model and live by our values: Responsiveness, Integrity, Insight, Collaboration and Excellence.
About our branch
The Workplace Relations and Occupational Safety (WROS) Branch provides advice and conducts litigation in relation to all aspects of Victorian public sector employment, industrial relations, occupational health and safety and discrimination law.
Why Join Us? This is a unique opportunity to work on complex and meaningful matters that shape the Victorian public sector. You'll be part of a supportive, purpose-driven team that values collaboration, professional growth, and excellence in legal service delivery.
About the role
We're seeking a senior and experienced employment law professional to join the VGSO as a Principal Solicitor or Managing Principal Solicitor within our Workplace Relations and Occupational Safety (WROS) Branch.
In this pivotal role, you will work on complex and high-profile employment law matters, delivering strategic legal advice and managing a diverse mix of litigation and advisory work. You'll also take on a key leadership role mentoring junior solicitors and contributing to the development of a high-performing, collaborative team.
This role offers the opportunity to further develop your marketing and communication skills through regular public speaking and training via client workshops. Experience working with or within government is highly regarded, though not essential.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable employment law expert who thrives on complex and meaningful work, and who is eager to share their expertise across the Branch while contributing to a positive and cohesive team culture.
Benefits
VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge. You will also be given excellent career opportunities to progress and develop within the organisation.
At VGSO, we strive to be a learning organisation, where professional growth and continuous learning are central to our employee experience. We offer an in-house CPD program, professional memberships, leadership and professional development training and mentoring opportunities.
VGSO embraces flexibility and recognises the importance of work-life balance. We offer a flexible hybrid work arrangement, allowing employees to spend half of their time working remotely and the other half in the office. This setup encourages collaboration and strengthens team connections, while supporting your ability to achieve a healthy work-life balance.
