THE ROLE
The Principal Solicitor will work closely with the Special Adviser in delivering services across the legislation portfolio by the Legal Services Branch to the Secretary, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, and the department's portfolio Ministers.
This role will support the Special Advisor in providing high quality legal advice and services to support implementation of child safety reforms. Specifically, assisting with passage of legislative amendments and supporting implementation of those amendments by providing advice and preparing instruments and other documents to support machinery of government changes, information-sharing arrangements, and other implementation activity.
The Principal Solicitor role will also perform a critical role in providing leadership, support and mentorship to the junior solicitors in the teams.
Subject to the needs of the Legal Services branch additional work may be required of this role to support the broader Public Law, Litigation and Inquiries team.
