The role of the principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department and the school community.
At the same time, the principal, as executive officer of the school council, must ensure that adequate and appropriate advice is provided to the council on educational and other matters, that the decisions of the council are implemented and that adequate support and resources are provided for the conduct of council meetings.
The principal is accountable for the overall management and development of the school within statewide guidelines and Government policies. A clear set of accountabilities, which distinguish their work from other members of the Teaching Service and the education community are set out in detail in the contract of employment.

Keelonith PS is located in Greenvale with a current enrolment of 365 students. The team consists of 3 Principal class, 2 Learning Specialists, 16 mentor classes and 5 specialist subjects across the school with support from Allied Health and Education Support teams. Keelonith PS opened in 2021 as a Supported Inclusion School. A local community school for families with a secondary enrolment policy that enables the school to enrol up to 10 percent of the student population from outside the designated enrolment zone if diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability.
Keelonith Primary School is focused on providing an environment which is universally designed for every learner socially, academically and physically, regardless of their personal circumstances, to access the learning they require at their point of need. There is an inherent belief that every child has the right to learn alongside their peers of the same age at their local neighbourhood school.
The school operates with an inclusive mindset to reduce barriers and provide access to learning, guided by multi-tiered systems of support. The school provides an approved curriculum framework: Foundation to Year 6, based on the Victorian Curriculum. Specialist programs include Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts, STEAM and Auslan. Extra-curricular programs include camps and excursions, inter-school sport, bike education, swimming program and lunchtime clubs.
Permanent facilities at Keelonith PS include an administration building, with a variety of meeting options and staff facilities, which also serve as a community hub. A number of permanent teaching spaces are grouped to facilitate flexible teaching options and development of learning communities at each mentor class level.
Other facilities include a full-size stadium, performing arts studio and two Science, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) centres. The grounds include hard court areas, playgrounds, basketball and netball courts and an oval.
