At the same time, the principal, as executive officer of the school council, must ensure that adequate and appropriate advice is provided to the council on educational and other matters, that the decisions of the council are implemented and that adequate support and resources are provided for the conduct of council meetings.
The principal is accountable for the overall management and development of the school within statewide guidelines and Government policies. A clear set of accountabilities, which distinguish their work from other members of the Teaching Service and the education community are set out in detail in the contract of employment.
The core accountabilities of all principals are to:
Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
The department is committed to diversity and inclusion and developing a workforce that is representative of the community we service. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for roles within the Department. The Department recognises that the provision of safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces is essential to high performance and promotes flexible work and diversity across all schools and Department workplaces. It is our policy to provide reasonable adjustments for staff with disability (see Workplace adjustment guidelines).
Additional support and advice on the recruitment process is available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates from the Koorie Outcomes Division (KOD) via [email protected]
Applicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction. Such requests will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to the operational requirements of the school.

Surrounded by National Park, coastline and wilderness areas, Mallacoota is the most easterly township in Victoria and acknowledged as one of the few remote rural townships in the state. We have a permanent population of 1000, which rises to 10,000 during the peak holiday periods. We are a welcoming, intergenerational community with strong participation in the arts, sports and care for country.
The schools current SFOE is 0.3212, with approximately 120 students. Our staffing profile includes a Principal, an Assistant Principal, VCE Team Leader, 13 EFT teaching staff and Education Support (ES) staff. The school also has a 0.5 School Nurse, 0.4 Mental Health in Primary Schools leader and 0.5 Mental Health Practitioner.
At Mallacoota P-12 College, we create, practise, and maintain an environment that promotes respectful relationships, gender equality, learning and striving. The School Wide Positive Behaviour matrix is implemented across the college, along with the implementation of the Respectful Relationships curriculum. Building classroom capacity and practice, as well as the application of the Victorian Curriculum F-10, along with the implementation of a consistent Instructional Model, remain high on the college's priorities. We are proud of our consistently strong VCE results and VCE-VM completion rates. We enjoy working with small cohorts of students across composite classes, well supported by experienced ES staff and committed to the challenge of supporting each student on their individual learning journey.
We are a member of the Far East Network of schools and have strong links with the P-12, Primary and Secondary education providers in the Network.
We are a very well-resourced and supported school that has recently had an administration area upgrade and is connected with several philanthropic and community organisations. The school boasts extensive sporting grounds and undercover facilities, a separate Music House and dedicated Science, Technology, Art, Library learning areas, along with general classrooms and a secondary flexible learning space.
The local kindergarten was relocated to the school site in 2022. As a result, the school has strengthened its partnership with the kindergarten service provider to develop teaching and learning programs that support and enhance transitioning from early childhood learning to school.
All interested applicants are encouraged to contact David Mowbray (Senior Education Improvement Leader) regarding the unique opportunity that exists at Mallacoota P-12 College.
