The role of the principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department and the school community.
At the same time, the principal, as executive officer of the school council, must ensure that adequate and appropriate advice is provided to the council on educational and other matters, that the decisions of the council are implemented and that adequate support and resources are provided for the conduct of council meetings.
The principal is accountable for the overall management and development of the school within statewide guidelines and Government policies. A clear set of accountabilities, which distinguish their work from other members of the Teaching Service and the education community are set out in detail in the contract of employment.
The core accountabilities of all principals are to:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for roles within the Department. The Department recognises that the provision of safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces is essential to high performance and promotes flexible work and diversity across all schools and Department workplaces. It is our policy to provide reasonable adjustments for staff with disability (see Workplace adjustment guidelines).

Boroondara Park Primary School serves the educational community in North Balwyn and Bulleen, on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. The school is situated on spacious grounds which enables it to provide an opportunity for a wide range of learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom for the current enrolment of 278 students.
Boroondara Park Primary School is committed to providing all students with a challenging and enriching learning environment, allowing them to use their skills and knowledge to flourish into independent learners and critical thinkers as they pursue excellence in all things. The school implements evidenced based approaches to learning, with a focus innovative and engaging experiences for all students. The staff strive to embed practices which cater for the learning needs of all students.
The values respect, care, responsibility and inclusion guide our students to greet the world with confidence in themselves, pride in their school, kindness in their hearts and compassion for their communities.
The school's comprehensively planned and structured curriculum encompasses core discipline-based learning complemented by studies in visual arts, performing art, physical education, French, EAL and maths extension. The learning program is implemented with student voice and explicit teaching at the core. Boroondara Park fosters a positive culture of respect and responsibility, with an emphasis on development of the whole child, student agency and pastoral care. This occurs within a caring and supportive environment with a strong focus on student wellbeing. The implementation of Visible Wellbeing is complemented by embedded practices and processes including Care, Learn and Share (pastoral care), Restorative Practices and Zones of Regulation.
Boroondara Park fosters a positive culture of respect and responsibility, as a community everyone has three rights - the right to learn, the right to be treated with respect and the right to feel safe. Along with these rights come responsibilities to act to ensure others feel safe physically and emotionally; to treat others fairly and with respect; to try our best and have a positive impact on the learning of others.
A key strength of the school is the passionate and dedicated staff, always striving to build a program which caters for all students. The school views a child's education as being the joint responsibility of the school, the child and the parents. To this end we encourage parental involvement in a range of areas and continually look at ways to enhance communication between school and home.
