The role of the principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department and the school community.
At the same time, the principal, as executive officer of the school council, must ensure that adequate and appropriate advice is provided to the council on educational and other matters, that the decisions of the council are implemented and that adequate support and resources are provided for the conduct of council meetings.
The principal is accountable for the overall management and development of the school within statewide guidelines and Government policies. A clear set of accountabilities, which distinguish their work from other members of the Teaching Service and the education community are set out in detail in the contract of employment.

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

Dimboola Memorial Secondary College (DMSC) is situated approximately 36km from Horsham on the Wimmera River, halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. The school attracts students from surrounding towns (Jeparit, Horsham, Kiata, Pimpinio and Antwerp) that travel on our school buses. The school boasts excellent technology, sporting and cooking facilities for students and community to use and is proud to be one of only two memorial schools in Australia.
In the previous two years DMSC has been rated as a School of Influence (2023) and a High Performing School (2024). The school consistently achieves amongst the highest in the Wimmera for median VCE Study Score and School staff survey results, which showed an 82.4% positive endorsement of the school, compared with a state average for secondary schools of 57.2%. Parent satisfaction was at 76.2% in 2023 and 94% in 2024.
Years 10-12 students can access VETiS programs, through several providers in the larger regional centre of Horsham. A strong VCE VM and VPC program is offered at Years 11-12, as well as VCE subjects, which are also available to students in Year 10 and higher. Australian School Based Apprenticeships are taken up by some of our students as well. Instrumental music and a well-planned camps program contribute to a rich school environment.
At DMSC, we aim to develop each student's full academic and social potential in a stimulating learning environment. Dimboola is the only provider of secondary education in the town of Dimboola, and accordingly, strives to provide a comprehensive curriculum with a broad range of pathways and options to meet the various needs and interests for all our students.
