THE ROLE
The aim of the Principal Practice Adviser Child Protection and Children and Families is to provide practice leadership, advice and support as it relates to child protection and other parts of the service system that intersect with children and young people involved with Child Protection. The role aims to strengthen the skills and knowledge of child protection practitioners with the intent of improving outcomes for children and young people and build a child-focussed family-centred practice culture that integrates evidence from research and critical reflection. The Principal Practice Adviser will undertake specialist assessments, interventions, and case reviews.
The Principal Practice Adviser will provide high level practice expertise and offer secondary consultation with the option of providing live supervision; and staff mentoring as needed. The role is responsible for the delivery of practice leadership via the implementation of continuous improvement strategies based on best practice.
The role supports the Child Protection program and will intersect with other parts of the service system that support children and young people as needed. The role requires someone who is knowledgeable about and experienced in the Child Protection program, experienced in working with other parts of the service system related to children and young people, and is outcomes focussed and comfortable working with project timeframes, milestones and deliverables.
The role is part of the Statewide Practice Leadership unit, which provides strategic and case related practice leadership and subject matter expertise, advice, and direction, working with departmental and sector partners. The unit oversees, guides, develops and implements best practice advice and frameworks, and reviews proposed local and national legislative and policy amendments. The unit provide consultation and advice on high risk and complex cases. The unit identifies and responds to escalating practice risks, issues, and themes across the state.
You will possess an understanding of Aboriginal culture and demonstrate an understanding of the legislative, policy and practice requirements relating to Aboriginal children, families, and communities, including the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and the programs and initiatives that support its implementation in child protection practice.
The role may require periodic travel to regional and rural areas within Victoria, including overnight stays.
