About the Opportunities
We have 2 Principal Lawyer roles available. One position is responsible for Planning and Environment advice and the other position is for a Project Specialist.
Reporting directly to a Managing Principal Lawyer, you will provide high quality and pragmatic legal advice to MRPV project teams and the broader business across a broad range of areas, including in relation to procurement, contracting, interfaces, public law and policy.
You and your colleagues will work in complete partnership with our multi-disciplinary project teams to manage legal, commercial and contractual risks that are prevalent for a project of this size.
On a day-to-day basis, this role could see you providing best-for-project advice, liaising with internal and external stakeholders on a wide range of project/regulatory and compliance issues, considering claims and delivery issues, briefing government stakeholders, participating in knowledge-sharing activities across all Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority projects and so much more!
The positions will appeal to an astute legal professional who is seeking the opportunity to contribute to a city-shaping program of works.
The positions are primarily located at Melbourne CBD with occasional attendance at other MRPV project offices.
Join us in building better connections for Victoria by:
- Providing high quality and pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of legal areas, including matters relating to project delivery, legislation, interfaces, land planning and environment, compliance and regulatory issues.
- Managing and coordinating certain legal aspects of procurement, delivery or organisational-wide activities.
- Managing and engaging with external advisors and collaborating with other teams and external advisors as required, to ensure issues are considered efficiently and a consistent and agreed approach is taken to support MRPV and project expectations.
- Proactively establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to enable the efficient and appropriate provision of legal services and to ensure MRPV’s and project objectives are met.
About You
You will be a key liaison and expert communicator throughout the organisation. You will have self-awareness, a sense of purpose and critical thinking abilities in addition to exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate effectively within a complex government environment.
In addition, you are:
- Either:
- A regulatory specialist, preferably with experience (either in private practice, Government or in‐house roles) in Planning and Environment matters affecting projects; or
- A construction, projects or infrastructure specialist, with experience (either in private practice, Government or in‐house) in front-end procurement and contracting, delivery or back-end matters.
- Well-versed in, or able to rapidly gain experience in, legal project management including tracking and management of legal workflows, memoranda, briefs, publications, redactions, contract timeframes and contract execution processes.
- You must have a relevant tertiary qualification in law and admitted, or eligible to be admitted, as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Both opportunities are 3 years fixed-term.
