About the role:
The Principal Architect - Infrastructure provides strategic leadership and expert guidance across the Health, and Families, Fairness and Housing architecture landscapes. This role ensures alignment with departmental priorities and whole-of-government initiatives, while being able to provide strategic architecutral support across legacy and modern environements. As a senior technical expert, the role is responsible for shaping and delivering complex ICT strategies, overseeing enterprise architecture frameworks, and driving transformation through secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions. The role demands deep expertise in hybrid environments—including cloud, on-premises, and edge infrastructure—and the ability to design and implement best-practice architectures that support resilience, performance, and compliance.
The role leads cross-functional collaboration to modernise legacy systems, support data centre exits, and optimise cloud adoption, while ensuring alignment with cybersecurity standards and audit recommendations. It also plays a critical role in influencing technology direction and providing authoritative technical guidance through active participation in governance forums, contributing to strategic planning, business case development, and enterprise risk management.
Working closely with senior leadership, the Principal Architect - Infrastructure engages stakeholders across departments, vendors, and health services to ensure architectural decisions enable operational efficiency, digital innovation, and improved outcomes for Victorians.

As the Principal Architect – Infrastructure, you will take a systems-thinking approach to understanding the Department's complex technology landscape. You will identify trends, risks, and opportunities across internal and external environments and design innovative, integrated solutions that align with strategic objectives.
Your strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities will allow you to interpret complex information, evaluate multiple perspectives, and develop practical solutions that balance performance, security, and sustainability. Working closely with technical teams and stakeholders, you will lead the development of infrastructure architecture standards, ensuring they meet business needs and future growth.
You will operate as a trusted consultant, engaging with clients to understand their requirements, clarify expectations, and deliver tailored advice that drives successful outcomes. With strong self-management and emotional intelligence, you will seek and apply feedback constructively, maintaining professionalism and composure in high-pressure situations.
