The Opportunity
The Principal Engineer (Victorian Transmissin Planning), will contribute to the development and implementation of planning criteria to reform the Victorian transmission system and REZ development.
What you will deliver
• Provide effective technical input and advise for the development of Victorian Transmission Plan and Renewable Energy Zones and participate in multi-disciplinary teams working on VTP planning and modelling issues.
• Lead renewable energy zone (REZ) development and transmission infrastructure development technical discussions with consultants, AEMO, NSPs and inhouse multi-disciplinary teams.
• Develop REZ and transmission capacity outlook, MCA, CBA, and options assessment methodology over a long-term planning horizon.
• Analyse potential issues and identifies solutions to ensure reliable and efficient power delivery including design network architectures, and coordinating with various stakeholders.
• Initiate, build, and manage confident and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders including departmental executives, Ministers and associated departments.
What you will bring
• Experience with developing and delivering major Power Systems infrastructure augmentations and working on renewable energy projects
• Prior government policy implementation experience, as well as knowledge/experience of the energy sector, ideally including the national electricity regulatory framework (the National Electricity Law and National Electricity Rules), as well as Victorian energy legislation.
• Strong leadership, Technical Engineering, project management and stakeholder engagement skills. Sound understanding of governance processes in Government is desirable.
• An appropriate tertiary qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Energy Systems, Electronics, etc), Mathematics, Econometrics, Economics, Science, or other relevant quantitative fields.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Electricity Transmission System operation, planning and economics.
• experience in renewable energy project development, electricity demand forecasting, energy at risk and cost-benefit modelling, TAPR/DAPR, RIT-T, etc will be highly desirable.
• Experience and knowledge in; VAPR (Victoria Annual Performance Report) and VNPIR (Victoria network performance and insight report), robust quantitative, analytical, and strategic thinking skills, underscored by a track record of creating complex energy models in PLEXOS & Powersystem study models in PSS/E, etc and conducting analyses to drive well-informed decisions.
