THE ROLE
Reporting to the Executive Area Director in the Wimmera South West Area, West Division, this position plays a key leadership role. The Principal Adviser will support the critical operations of the Area, organisational capability development and high-level strategic advice to the Executive Area Director and Senior Leadership Team. As a key member of the team, this position supports the delivery of outputs for the Area, and regularly liaises with a wide range of client, community, staff, and inter-governmental stakeholders and operates with a high-level of professionalism, initiative, and collaboration.
The Principal Adviser provides support to the Executive Area Director and Area Senior Leadership team across a range of projects and reforms. The Principal Adviser provides oversight and supports the Area and multi-agency governance arrangements, supports Area strategy and planning, and plays a role in monitoring Area performance and quality outcomes.
The Principal Adviser is responsible for managing and responding to highly sensitive matters and managing relationships that protect and enhance the reputation of the Area, Division, and the Department. This is achieved by coordinating responses to enquiries to the Area Director; by providing internal consultancy to members of the Area Senior Leadership; by undertaking whole of Area projects in Areas of specific importance relating to communications; and by managing processes to ensure the Area meets its performance on the completion of Ministerial correspondence and briefings.
The position has a close working relationship with the offices of the other Areas in the Division, the Office of the Division Deputy Secretary, broader department central Branches where necessary (including the Media Unit, Office of the Secretary and Cabinet and Parliamentary Executive Services Branch) and the offices of the Disability Services Commissioner and the Commissioners for Children and Young People.
