About the role:
Reporting to the Director, AOD Programs and Performance, the Principal Aboriginal Services Advisor provides strategic leadership and expert advice to strengthen culturally safe, self-determined and evidence based alcohol and other drugs (AOD) policy, reform and program responses for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. The role leads work that supports improved access, equity and outcomes for Aboriginal people, families and communities, and helps embed Aboriginal self-determination, cultural safety and community voice across AOD work.
The role works across the AOD Programs and Performance Unit and AOD broader branch, and in partnership with Aboriginal community controlled organisations, service providers, people with lived and living experience, and other stakeholders to shape initiatives that are responsive to community need. This includes contributing to implementation of Victoria's AOD reform agenda and supporting approaches that improve service accessibility, quality, cultural responsiveness and coordination across prevention, harm reduction, treatment responses.
The successful applicant will have strong judgement, communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work across government and with Aboriginal partners to deliver complex and sensitive initiatives in a way that supports equity, accountability and better health and wellbeing outcomes.
