About the Branch/Group
The Consumer Affairs and Local Government (CALG) Group makes it easier for customers and businesses to engage with government by delivering strategic policy, regulatory services, and customer-focused programs for Victorians. Within CALG, the Portfolio Strategy, Projects and Performance Division provides strategic leadership through evidence-based policy, governance, evaluation, project management, and data-driven insights. The Integrated Priority Projects Branch leads the delivery of complex, cross-portfolio projects and Ministerial priorities, managing projects from concept through to implementation while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver effective and sustainable outcomes.
About the Role
As a Policy Officer, you will contribute to significant government reform projects and strategic policy initiatives, particularly in areas such as housing and cost of living. Working collaboratively across government departments, agencies, the Regulatory Policy Division, and Service Victoria, you will support the development and implementation of policy solutions that deliver government priorities and improve outcomes for Victorians. The role requires a developing policy professional with skills in policy development, stakeholder engagement, project management, or data analytics, who is adaptable, collaborative, and eager to contribute to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Accountabilities
· Researches and develops recommendations in a specific field of expertise
· Develops and implements operational policy which impacts the immediate work area
· Prepares reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues that impact at program or organisational level
· Develops and implements operational communication and consultation strategies on specific projects
About You
· We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience from the following criteria: Policy Design and Development – As the core function of the role, you'll be expected to research, analyse evidence, consult stakeholders, and contribute to the development of policies and business cases that support government reform initiatives.
· Critical Thinking and Problem Solving – Essential for analysing complex issues, interpreting information, identifying solutions, and making informed recommendations in a dynamic policy environment.
· Working Collaboratively – The role involves partnering across government departments, agencies, the Regulatory Policy Division, and Service Victoria, making collaboration and teamwork critical to delivering successful outcomes.
· Project Delivery – Supporting and coordinating strategic reform projects requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, monitor progress, and contribute to the successful delivery of project outcomes.
