About Us:
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Police Policy and Crime Prevention (PPCP) business unit is responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and reviewing police and crime prevention related policy, legislation and programs in accordance with the Government's priorities. PPCP acts as a connector across the justice system and government more broadly, working closely with other DJCS business units, other departments, and Victoria Police, to provide strategic and technical advice on initiatives and reforms that relate to the police and crime prevention portfolios.
Within PPCP, the Legislation and Governance (L&G) team leads policy and legislation development in relation to the governance and regulation of Victoria Police and wider justice system reforms that intersect with the police portfolio. The team performs a significant role in the development, implementation and review of a broad range of other policy and legislative matters that intersect with police governance, powers, operations, integrity and misconduct/discipline. The team also provides secretariat and project support for, and policy advice in relation to, police-related government commitments resulting from royal commissions and inquiries.
About the Role:
The Policy Officer provides critical analysis and input into projects, policy initiatives and DJCS reforms from a policing and community safety perspective. This role performs a range of coordination functions and supports the development, implementation and review of police-related policy in accordance with Government's priorities. This role requires sound communication and interpersonal skills in order to liaise across DJCS and with stakeholders, and the ability to manage competing priorities with limited supervision.
