About Us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Police Policy and Strategy (PPS) business unit is responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and reviewing police-related policy, legislation and programs in accordance with the Government's priorities. PPS also acts as a connector across the justice system and government more broadly, working closely with other DJCS business units, other departments, and Victoria Police, to provide strategic and technical advice on initiatives and reforms that relate to the police portfolio.
PPS provides high-quality, independent and strategic policy, legal and financial advice to the Minister, the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary, Police, Racing, Victims & Coordination, and the Executive Director, Police and Community Safety around these matters. It also manages key parts of the Minister's legislative program relating to the powers and governance of Victoria Police and regulatory responsibilities within the police portfolio.
Within PPS, the Police Portfolio Support and Coordination team provides independent, objective policy advice to the Minister for Police and departmental executives on a range of issues impacting on police, including government commitments concerning workforce and infrastructure, crime statistics, the Secretary and Minister's annual appearance before the Parliamentary Accounts and Estimates Committee, ministerial events and parliamentary matters. The team also responds to the majority of correspondence addressed to the Minister or Executives in relation to policing matters.
About the Role
The Policy Officer leads the coordination of correspondence and parliamentary matters within Police, Fines and Crime Prevention.
