The Policy & Legislative Services Officer provides specialist administrative, technical business unit support and service to the Legislation, Policy and Information (LPIS) Division of WorkSafe to maintain quality outcomes and to enable the Division’s efficient functioning.

About the opportunity
Due to internal promotion, we are looking for a Policy & Legislation Officer to provide specialist administrative, technical business unit support and service to the Legislation, Policy and Information (LPIS) Division of WorkSafe.
This role involves supporting, assisting and coordinating work across a wide portfolio of projects and programs and is designed to enable key learning and development opportunities within the team and LPIS Division.
Key accountabilities
- Support the Senior Policy & Legislative Services Advisors in the development of critical research and analysis on relevant academic literature, case law, industry trends and research in other jurisdictions both overseas and nationally on best practice approaches for identifying and addressing emerging policy and regulatory issues, including developing options to resolve issues.
- Assist in the development of and/or undertake the quality assurance review of statutory and non-statutory guidance
- Contribute to the ongoing delivery and development of effective work by the team to address key priority issues, policy and regulatory issues, including supporting the development of options or recommendations to help resolve issues and maintain momentum towards meeting project outcomes across a wide portfolio of projects and programs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, work towards crucial deadlines, deliver on agreed activities and accountabilities and meet key milestones.
- Provide high level administration and policy support to the team by contributing to the preparation of briefings, meeting papers, reports or submissions to executive, cabinet or parliament maintaining delivery of high administration standards within crucial timeframes.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and participate in multi-skilled teams to proactively assist areas to apply quality customer-service principles to identity and understand key policy issues, needs and concerns, utilising a variety of negotiation, presentation, communication and education techniques.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience in high level administration with strong coordination and planning skills
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across various business units
- Proven ability to use initiative and to meet tight deadlines, often with competing priorities
- Ability to support the development of strategic and or legal policy in government environments and the preparation of meetings, agendas, minutes, reports, presentations, and briefings.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or experience in law, public policy, social sciences or economics (desirable)
