The Economic Division leads the development of advice to the Government, and implementation of priority projects, for key economic and policy priorities including economic strategy, regulatory reform, housing, social policy, government tax policy and intergovernmental financial relations to drive improvements in Victoria's productive and efficient resource allocation, competitiveness and equity across the economy.
Revenue Group
The Revenue Group is responsible for providing analysis and advice to Government on:
Tax policy, including the composition and performance of State taxes and revenue policy options, including opportunities to improve the State's tax mix.
Intergovernmental financial relations, particularly in relation to the distribution and design of Commonwealth funding to Australian states and territories.
Revenue Forecasting, including projections of GST and State own source revenue (including taxes on employers' payroll and the labour force, taxes on property, gambling taxes, taxes on insurance, motor vehicle taxes and other taxes).
Gambling, policy including management of the State's litigation in response to claims from previous gaming operators.
Intergovernmental Relations team
The Intergovernmental Relations team provides advice on Commonwealth-state funding, including GST policy and major partnership agreements spanning the breadth of government services. The team supports the Treasurer's attendance at the Council on Federal Financial Relations and the Board of Treasurers, which are important forums for progressing the national economic agenda.
Position overview
This is an exciting opportunity that will require you to lead the timely delivery of high-quality advice to support the negotiation of funding agreements with the Commonwealth and strategic briefings for intergovernmental meetings responding to current State and Commonwealth policies. You will also have the opportunity to support the delivery of advice on policy around the GST distribution.
