The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Tourism Infrastructure Programs, the Senior Project Officer – Tourism Infrastructure Programs plays a central role in creating and managing the authorising environment for Tourism Infrastructure funding programs. This dynamic role supports the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of tourism infrastructure investment initiatives and provides influential advice to Ministers, senior departmental executives and government stakeholders on challenges and opportunities within the tourism portfolio.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in investment program and policy development within the tourism field, strong analytical capabilities and a sound understanding of government processes. The role involves conducting research and analysis of complex policy issues, supporting the development of tourism infrastructure investment programs through business case design and implementation, and building strong stakeholder relationships to support successful infrastructure outcomes.
Main Accountabilities
• Provide authoritative advice on complex tourism, planning and infrastructure policy issues, risks and strategic opportunities to Ministers, senior executives and stakeholders.
• Lead the development of high-quality business case submissions, ministerial briefings, reports, presentations and correspondence.
• Build and maintain effective relationships across DJSIR, government agencies, industry bodies and external stakeholders to support tourism infrastructure outcomes.
• Coordinate responses to key government reporting requirements, including election commitments, Budget Paper 3 and PAEC processes.
• Lead program evaluation activities and contribute to evidence-based recommendations for future tourism infrastructure investment priorities.
The Team
The position of Senior Project Officer – Tourism Infrastructure Programs forms part of the Tourism Infrastructure Programs branch within the Sport and Experience Economy Group.
The Sport and Experience Economy Group delivers programs and initiatives that support positive experiences and a sense of belonging through sport, tourism, events and outdoor recreation. The Group supports economic growth, community participation and regional development through policies, infrastructure investment and programs that strengthen Victoria's sport and experience economy sectors.
About You
You will bring demonstrated expertise in implementing, interpreting and providing advice on policies, programs and guidelines that support tourism infrastructure grant programs, together with experience using Salesforce GEMS for grant management processes. You will also have a sound understanding of policy development and evaluation, Victorian Government processes and the operational issues impacting tourism infrastructure investment.
You will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise and audience-appropriate briefs, reports and correspondence. Your ability to analyse complex issues, negotiate effectively with stakeholders and adapt to changing priorities will enable you to deliver successful outcomes in a fast-paced government environment.
