Role Description: Learning Specialist Teacher: Pedagogy
Learning Specialists will be outstanding classroom teachers, responsible for demonstrating and modelling an outstanding level of teaching. A Learning Specialist teacher will be expected to model a strong commitment to personal pedagogical and leadership growth and contribute to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the College.
They will have a deep and meaningful understanding of East Doncaster¿s philosophy of education, be committed to contribute to our future direction as we strive to be a high performing school. They will share our belief that having high expectations and the development of authentic relationships are important precursors to creating a culture of curiosity.
The Learning Specialist (Generalist) teacher is an integral component of the Curriculum Leadership Team and will work closely with the Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning), Curriculum Coordinator, Leading Teacher ¿ Pedagogy, Leading Teacher ¿ Data Analysis, Leading Teacher ¿ Professional Development, Domain Leaders and specific teaching staff.

Learning Specialist Teacher: Professional Practice
A Learning Specialist will be responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the College strategic plan. Typically, Learning Specialists will work with a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning so as to directly impact on student well-being, connectedness and achievement. A Learning Specialist teacher will be expected to model a strong commitment to personal pedagogical and leadership growth and contribute to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the College.
A Learning Specialist teacher will actively contribute to events in the College Accountability Cycle by leading discussions, recording and providing information required for the School Council Annual Report, Annual Implementation Plan, Self-Evaluation, Review and Strategic Plan.
The Learning Specialist Teacher will:
¿ Model exemplary classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons.
¿ Be an advocate and driver of the East Doncaster Secondary College improvement strategies as outlined in College policy documents of practice in the Teaching and Learning, Staff Operations and Student Wellbeing Handbooks
¿ Meet as required with the Curriculum Leadership Team to plan and evaluate the implementation of PLCs.
¿ Actively promote the embedding of the College Instructional Model in teacher practice, especially new teachers.
¿ Support staff members to improve their teaching practice via Peer observation and active discussion.
¿ Provide evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development
Typical Duties:
¿ Provide mentoring and/or coaching for teachers
¿ Model exemplary professional learning practice included through seeking feedback from other teachers and leaders on their own classroom practice as part of critical reflection and inquiry to improve practice
¿ Meet with the Curriculum Leadership Team
¿ Lead and support teachers in differentiating learning for their students using relevant data to inform practices
¿ Maximise the provision of high quality professional development in collaboration with other Learning Specialist teachers and members of the Curriculum Leadership Team
¿ Promote, support and monitor the embedding of Peer Observation processes and protocols.
¿ Work with domain teams to develop and document curriculum with a focus upon pedagogical practices designed to enhance student learning outcomes.
¿ Coach and support staff to trial and reflect upon identified effective strategies and processes in their classrooms through the use of Peer Observation.
¿ Support teachers to understand and use a variety of assessment to provide regular, accurate and meaningful monitoring of student progress.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

This position is a Learning Specialist position with a three year tenure from 27/01/2026 to 26/01/2029.
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
