We are looking for a Paralegal to join our Health & Safety Legal (HSL) team in a fixed term capacity. The Paralegal will be responsible for the provision of timely and professional paralegal support to legal staff within HSL and assist with supervising administrative staff.
- $90,308.00 per annum + 12% superannuation

About the opportunity
Health & Safety Legal (HSL) sits within WorkSafe's Legal & Governance Division. HSL provides expert legal advice on compliance and enforcement activities under Victorian occupational health and safety laws. HSL also manages a civil litigation practice arising in relation to these activities, primarily in the field of administrative review, including before the Coroners Court.
The Paralegal will be responsible for the provision of timely and professional paralegal support to legal staff within HSL and assist with supervising administrative staff.
Key accountabilities
- General administrative, clerical and secretarial support to the lawyers of HSL, including diary management, co-ordinating litigation calendars, scheduling and arranging meetings, stakeholder forums, agenda preparation, minute taking and distribution and associated follow up together with administrative support for various team projects
- Register, schedule, coordinate, prepare and serve documents for VCAT and other litigation, including drafting and formatting legal documents and correspondence, costs sheets and back-sheets for Counsel. Liaise with relevant tribunals and courts as required
- Maintain, manage and keep up-to-date HSL advice, licensing, subpoena and other databases, and update advice and case files
- Assist HSL to ensure compliance with subpoenas issued to WorkSafe, including checking subpoena validity, conducting database searches and obtaining relevant information from internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and distribute various weekly and monthly reports

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:
- Experience in a legal, agent or professional services environment with an understanding of legal system and litigation process
- Experience in the management of databases/screen-based monitoring systems
- Demonstrated capacity to use problem-solving skills, initiative and tenacity in follow-up
- Ability to perform a range of clerical and administrative tasks including keyboard support, records management, register maintenance and personnel related activities
- Knowledge of VCAT and its processes would be an advantage
- Tertiary qualification in legal or paralegal studies is desirable
