About the role
The Orthoptist is responsible for delivering a high standard of Orthoptic and Ophthalmic care to out-patients and referred in-patients.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality, evidence-based Orthoptic clinical care in accordance with National Australian Orthoptist Standards, including assessment and management of outpatients and referred inpatients, pre- and post-operative care (e.g. cataract assessment, A-scans, refractions, field analysis), and accurate, comprehensive clinical documentation.
Provide professional leadership and specialist support, acting as a clinical resource to the multidisciplinary team, fostering a patient-centred approach, and promoting a supportive, collaborative departmental environment.
Undertake administrative, quality and systems responsibilities, including timely completion of clinical administration, responding to service enquiries, participation in audit/research and service improvement activities, incident reporting, and effective use of Barwon Health IT and information management systems in line with organisational requirements.
What we’re looking for
Recognised qualifications in Orthoptics and current registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (as recognised by the Australian Orthoptic Association).
Demonstrated clinical experience in an orthoptic setting with sound clinical judgement and problem-solving capability.
High level attention to detail with the ability to prioritise and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a team-focused approach, commitment to customer service, and ability to maintain empathy and professionalism.
