Oracle Cloud Database Administrator & Platform Engineer
- Salary: $113,022 to $136,747 (Plus superannuation)

The Role
The Oracle Cloud Database & Platform Engineer is responsible for database operations and management, platform support for applications such as Oracle Analytics, APEX and Oracle Integration Cloud and administration the department's enterprise Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The role requires a hands-on technical specialist who will drive improvement and automation initiatives, optimise resource consumption, implement robust monitoring frameworks for proactive issue resolution and manage maintenance cycles. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, this role is ideal for someone with strong database expertise who can balance operational excellence with continuous improvement initiatives while effectively communicating with both technical and business stakeholders.
Main accountabilities:
- Database Administration and Performance Management: Manage and maintain Oracle Cloud databases including Autonomous Database. Monitor database performance, implement tuning strategies, optimise SQL queries and ensure databases operate at peak efficiency.
- Platform Support for Cloud Applications: Support administration of application services including APEX, Oracle Analytics and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). Collaborate with development leads and the Infrastructure Team to manage APEX workspaces, support OIC integration connectivity, optimise platform configurations and resolve application-related database or platform issues.
- Monitoring Framework and Incident Management: Implement comprehensive monitoring solutions using OCI Monitoring, Logging Analytics and third-party tools such as SQL Developer. Develop strategies, create custom metrics/alerts for proactive issue identification and support incident responses.
- Patching, Maintenance and Change Management: Plan and execute regular patching cycles for databases, coordinating maintenance windows with users to address issues and minimise business disruption. Manage patch testing and rollback procedures. Follow change management policies and processes.
- Data and Environment Management: Manage database cloning and refreshes of non-production environments. Implement data backups and archival strategies while supporting data governance and compliance requirements.
The Team
This position of Oracle Cloud Database Administrator & Platform Engineer forms a part of Information Technology and Workplace Services (IT & WS) branch, in the Corporate Services group.
The Corporate Services group consists of specialist functions including strategic communications, finance, investment and procurement, performance and governance, legal and legislation, people and culture, information technology and workplace services.
Information Technology & Workplace Services (IT & WS) branch oversees the delivery of ICT and Office Accommodation-related investments and services to DJSIR. IT&WS engages with the organisation to ensure IT and Office Accommodation systems and services are appropriately designed, governed, and delivered.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following main skills and experience:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Expertise: Demonstrated experience managing Oracle databases, with an understanding of OCI architecture, compartments and platform capabilities.
- Database Performan
ce Tuning and Troubleshooting: Advanced skills in Oracle database performance tuning, including SQL optimisation, index management and resource allocation. Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues, analyse AWR reports and implement performance improvements. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and OCI monitoring tools.
- Change Management Experience: Experience working within ITIL frameworks, particularly change and release management processes. Proven ability to plan and execute patching cycles, coordinate maintenance windows and manage production changes with minimal business impact.
- Automation and Scripting Capabilities: Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages including Python, Shell scripting and PL/SQL. Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Resource Manager. Demonstrated ability to automate routine operational tasks.
- Cloud Application Platform Experience: Experience with cloud applications such as Oracle Application Express (APEX), Oracle Analytics and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), with understanding of the interaction between these platforms and underlying database services and the ability to optimise platform performance, resolve connectivity issues and support developers with platform-related requirements.
