The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Operations Manager, to provide a critical role within Port Phillip Prison.
About the Business Unit
The Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group, comprising Corrections Victoria, Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
Corrections Victoria is responsible for the implementation of policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Corrections Victoria also sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities whilst also developing programs for the management and rehabilitation of prisoners and the community-based supervision of offenders.
Port Phillip Prison (St Johns Subacute Unit) provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Port Phillip has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, Operations Managers lead day to day service delivery and are responsible for all aspects of the operation and performance of the prison. Operations Managers support, coach and guide prison based staff to promote staff wellbeing; develop capability and confidence and embed respect and human rights in day to day prison operations. Operations Managers lead a team to deliver offender management and services to people in custody that promotes rehabilitation and achieves good order, safety and security in the prison. As a contributing member of the prison Leadership Team, Operations Managers establish compliance and lead continuous quality improvement in the delivery of contemporary correctional practice to the standards required of Corrections. As people managers, Operations Managers are accessible and visible front line leaders who promote respect and are committed to excellence in all aspects of service delivery.
