Specialist knowledge in the area of Pediatric Occupational Therapy with clinical experience delivering a comprehensive occupational therapy service. Experience within an educational setting is preferable but not essential.
Demonstrated understanding of the effects autism spectrum disorder can have on the motor and sensory development of children and a sound understanding of Sensory Integration theory and its applicability as a treatment.
Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with teaching teams to devise programs that extend a student¿s ability to adapt to a range of contexts, particularly the classroom and home environments.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult with and advise other professionals providing services to students.
The Position
The Occupational Therapist will provide direct services in classrooms and provide recommendations to teaching staff regarding programs for students in a school context.
The Occupational Therapist will provide support to classroom staff, including discussion, modeling and guidance regarding the implementation of recommendations.
The successful applicant will work at Yarraville Special Developmental School in a part-time capacity in a multidisciplinary team.
Key Accountabilities
Responsibility for the overall development and strategic planning of service provision to students, staff, parents and external agencies.
Incorporate school policies and procedures into OT services planning
Ensure a high personal standard of work
Maintain and upgrade therapy resources in consultation with Co-therapists
Meet regularly with School Principal, Leadership team and Co-Therapists
Provide professional development for staff of the school and external community groups as requested
Undertake relevant professional development
To work in consultation with teaching teams to undertake goal planning for students.
To provide written and verbal assessments and recommendations for therapists, teachers and parents where appropriate
To regularly consult with teachers and parents where appropriate in relation to the progress of the students
An approved qualification in occupational therapy, acceptable for membership of the Australian Health Professionals Association is mandatory for appointment to
this position.
