About the role:
The Aboriginal Health Nurse Practitioner at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre plays a critical role in improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in custody through the delivery of culturally safe, holistic, and person-centred healthcare.
Working within Western Health's multidisciplinary team, the Aboriginal Health Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, health promotion, and advocacy across the continuum of primary healthcare services.
The role supports women throughout their custodial journey by addressing physical, mental, emotional, social, and cultural health needs, while facilitating access to specialist and community-based services.
Our Aboriginal Health Nurse Practitioner partners with patients, families, Aboriginal health services, Corrections Victoria, and healthcare providers to reduce health inequities, strengthen cultural connection, and support continuity of care both during imprisonment and upon transition back into the community.
Through clinical leadership, cultural expertise, and evidence-based practice, the Aboriginal Health Nurse Practitioner contributes to Western Health's commitment to delivering healthcare services at a standard equivalent to the public health system, ensuring Aboriginal women at DPFC receive respectful, equitable, and culturally responsive care.
