Registered Nurse Postgraduate Medical-Surgical (6A) Nursing Course

We are aligned with Monash University to provide you with the opportunity to advance your clinical knowledge across Medical-Surgical Nursing with a Cardiac focus. As a Post Graduate Student, you will have the opportunity to have a rotation through ICU and Cath Lab in order to ensure exposure to all areas of caring for the complex cardiac patient. Bendigo Health also welcomes new nurses into the organisation who are wishing to further their studies and undertake Post Graduate Nursing studies.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team responsible for treating a wide cohort of patients with acute illness. The Registered Nurse on 6A is responsible for assessing, planning and implementing direct nursing care, while striving to improve patient outcomes through understanding current trends in Cardiology Med Surg nursing and unit specific Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
The Assessment and Treatment Unit is a 15 bed unit that provides acute care for cardiac and med/surg inpatients requiring treatment for up to 72hours with a planned disposition to home. The Home Unit is Cardiology with admissions predominantly from the Emergency Department, Short Stay Observation Unit, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Interventional Suite and stepdown CCU. The team works collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide excellent care. A complex care room supports higher acuity patients with experienced nurses providing optimised nursing care at a 1:3 ratio 24/7.
The Short Stay Observation Unit is a 16 bed fast paced, flexible unit that liaises directly with the Emergency Department to provide safe, timely access to care for Emergency patients requiring up to 24 hours admission. The SSOU has a dedicated ED Consultant and ANUM to oversee the high demand and optimise patient access to care.

The Mental Health Service provides psychiatric care and treatment across a large catchment covering the Loddon Mallee region. Family sensitive practice is central to our models of mental health care and best practice ensures the identification, inclusion and support of families, carers and children.
Each year our onsite Specialist Clinics provide over 100,000 service events, we also see more than 60,000 people in our Emergency Department and welcome around 1700 babies into the world. The Clinical Operations Division assists with the admission of more than 50,000 patients into the hospital each year.
