About the Department
The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Group
Schools and Regional Services (SRS) offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by Central Office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. Each region includes divisions specialising in school performance, student wellbeing and early childhood support, working with area-based teams to tailor local interventions and practices. The 17 areas provide crucial insights into local trends and issues, facilitating effective policy and program development and driving child and learner outcomes across all services and programs.
This role is located in the Youth Pathways & Transition Branch, School Performance Division, North East Victoria Region, SRS. The Youth Pathways & Transition Branch supports a broad range of processes and improvement projects designed to ensure effective pathways and transitions for young learners and vulnerable children 0-18.
About the Role
The School Performance Division is responsible for promoting and implementing regional and statewide consistency in areas relating to school improvement, provision and planning and youth pathways and transition.
The Navigator Coordinator plays a key role in the implementation of the Navigator program which funds community service organisations to provide intensive case management and assertive outreach to young people aged 12-17 years who are significantly disengaged from school and support them to return to education.
The Navigator Coordinator manages the relationship between the local external Navigator Service Providers, the department and other key services. This role facilitates referrals to the program in collaboration with regional teams and schools and engages in relevant data reporting processes to monitor re-engagement and outcomes for young people.
As contract managers, Navigator Coordinators are required to work with the Navigator Service Providers to build their capacity to engage with the school system and achieve the outcomes required. They also support the development and oversight of the strategic governance of the program, to identify broader opportunities to support the Navigator cohort and to ensure alignment with regional priorities.
The role requires an understanding of both community and education sectors, and how their systems operate to support young people and their families who face multiple, complex issues that may impact on their ability to engage with education.
Attributes
This position requires a highly organised and professional individual who can manage diverse stakeholder relationships and navigate complex program requirements. The ideal candidate will initiate and sustain effective connections with both internal and external stakeholders while collaborating well within the team. They should possess strong project management skills and employ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to devise innovative solutions for complex challenges. Additionally, they must effectively analyse data to inform decision-making and demonstrate the ability to work proactiv ely and independently.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience in working across the education and community sectors is essential for this role, as is the ability to work with schools both at an individual staffing level, and the broader school system level.
The successful applicant will be required to provide a current Working With Children Check.
