THE ROLE
The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing established a new service model to support children engaging in high harm behaviours with complex needs who are at risk of future engagement with the justice system. The service provides an intensive and coordinated response to these children and families targeted to addressing the underlying drivers of high harm behaviours including:
Identification and referral of eligible children and families will occur through multi-agency referral and planning at an area level. Four MARP Coordinators (one per DFFH division) will work with key organisations and agencies in each area to share information, identify at risk children and connect children and families to support services. The MARP coordinator will also make decisions on service eligibility and facilitate referrals directly into the family services component of the model at an area level. Access to the statewide specialist services and behaviour change support will be managed by a Statewide Coordinator.
Funding the program was recently extended until 30 June 2028 and as a new service will be subject to ongoing development and refinement. The MARP Coordinator will be required to adapt to program and role changes.
