About the role
THIS IS A FIXED TERM OPPORTUNITY UNTIL 25 FEBRUARY 2027
As a Movement and Safety Engineer, you will play an important role in improving road safety and traffic outcomes across the transport network. The position applies traffic engineering expertise to assess issues, develop practical solutions and provide informed recommendations that influence transport project outcomes. You will deliver timely and professional advice to the community and a broad range of stakeholders on traffic management and road safety matters.
The role also involves investigating road crashes using Safe System principles and contributing to fatal crash reporting in line with DTP policies and procedures. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will support the development and delivery of safety treatments and ensure assigned tasks are completed accurately and within required timeframes. In short, you help keep Victorians moving safely.
What we’re looking for
The role requires strong professional engineering knowledge and the ability to apply advanced technical expertise to design, deliver and continuously improve engineering solutions within a complex transport network. You will evaluate the outcomes and impacts of engineering activities using a systematic and holistic approach, ensuring safety and efficiency across the multimodal transport system.
Success in this role relies on strong partnerships and collaborative practices, building trust with stakeholders and facilitating co-creation to achieve shared outcomes. You will apply critical thinking to analyse complex issues, prevent recurring problems and deliver practical solutions aligned with broader organisational priorities. With strong influencing and interpersonal skills, you navigate political and organisational contexts, build consensus and foster collaboration across teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Engineering skills
Bachelor’s degree or experience in a relevant Engineering discipline (eg. Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering Bachelor’s Degree).
