ABOUT THE ROLE
As an integral part of a patient health care team, the role of the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) Paramedic is critical to providing advanced clinical interventions, procedures, and clinical leadership to improve clinical outcomes in critically ill and high acuity patients in preparation for and during transportation to hospital and in the out of hospital environment.
AV is seeking applications from Qualified ICP's for a 6-month fast track qualified ICP to MICA Program which is open to suitably experienced Intensive / Critical Care Paramedics (eligibility outlined below) with opportunities available in rural and regional areas throughout the State of Victoria.
This external advertising campaign is location specific, with positions available at the following locations (map attached) –
As part of your application, you will be required to nominate the locations you are prepared to work in. Please do not nominate any location unless you are genuinely willing to accept a position there. You will only be considered for the locations you nominate. If successful, you may be offered any of your nominated locations, subject to availability. Please note that some locations may no longer be available if they have already been allocated to applicants ranked higher on the order of merit.
Additionally, AV is undertaking external targeted recruitment to specific locations that are remote to metropolitan Melbourne to ensure coverage and stability across the state. It is important to note that applications are encouraged from applicants who can commit to these locations on a long-term basis (minimum three years) as due to current staffing levels across the state in regional centres and metropolitan locations, transfers will not be available in the short to medium term.
COMMENCEMENT
Commencement to the position, if successful, will be June 2026. An initial induction and bridging program will be conducted at the AV Capability Hub in Western Melbourne prior to deployment to your nominated on-road training location.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must have valid and current unrestricted Australian Work Rights and be available to commence with AV in June 2026.
Additionally, applicants must possess the following Equivalency of Qualification and Equivalency of Practice and be able to provide supporting evidence as part of their application.
EQUIVELENCY OF QUALIFICATION
Postgraduate tertiary qualifications in Critical Care / Intensive Care Paramedicine obtained during or after 2000 at least equivalent to an AQF level 8 Postgraduate Diploma
EQUIVALENCY OF PRACTICE
Applicants should review the Ambulance Victoria MICA Scope of Practice (attached) prior to applying for this role.

Ambulance Victoria reserves the right to make a final determination on an applicant's suitability for this role in relation to equivalency of qualification and/or practice. This recruitment is for ground-based MICA positions involving initially crewing a dedicated MICA stretcher ambulance with another MICA Paramedic, with accreditation as a MICA Single Responder expected to follow for applicants who successfully complete the Qualified ICP to MICA Program. Qualified MICA Paramedics may apply for acceptance into the MICA Flight training program after obtaining relevant experience at AV.
