Niddrie Autistic School has a well-established Multi-tiered Systems of Support for student wellbeing involving detailed tiers of support.
The core purpose of the Mental Health Wellbeing Leader is to coordinate the supports for students in collaboration with the leadership team, including tiered support plans, NDIS navigator referrals, child safe referrals and eduSafe referrals.
As part of the initiative, Mental Health Wellbeing Leaders receive evidence-based training in mental health literacy, supporting student need, and building school capacity, and receive ongoing professional development through Communities of Practice.
Mental Health Wellbeing Leaders work under the direction of the principal and leadership team - working collaboratively with the Wellbeing team, teachers and staff. The role of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader is to support the whole-school approach to NAS MTSS.
The role will be 4 days (0.8) in the classroom as Learning Specialist and 1 day (0.2) out of the classroom as MHWBL.
Key Areas of Focus:
Maintaining the database tracking of MTSS supports for rooms and students
Referring students for tiered supports
Managing referrals to external services and school NDIS navigator
Liasing with classrooms around eduSafe reports and referring on to OHS or Leaders to implement further tiered meetings.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
