The Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) initiative was announced by the Minister for Education in late 2018 to expand mental health and wellbeing support in government schools. The initiative provides for a suitably qualified mental health professional in all government secondary school campuses and specialist school (with secondary-aged enrolments) settings.
Operating in collaboration with the relevant Department of Education Regional Mental Health Branch, this role has the following functions:

The successful applicant will be an experienced professional who will carry out their duties and responsibilities, relative to their professional discipline, with a high level of autonomy and with minimal reliance on professional supervision. The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and implementation of professional support programs within an educational environment, including guidance to other professional staff.
As an education support class position, this role supports the educational services being provided to students, but will not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic).

This role is a shared 0.8 FTE Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) to provide mental health and wellbeing support across Charlton College, Pyramid Hill College and Boort District P¿12 School. This would include one day in each school and an administration day. The three schools are rural schools serving students and families across the surrounding communities. The shared MHP will work alongside school leadership, teaching staff and existing wellbeing teams to provide accessible mental health support to students across all three schools.
Charlton College is a P-12 rural school located in Charlton, approximately 255 km north-west of Melbourne and 110 km west of Bendigo. The College operates across two campuses and is also the site of the North Central Trade Training Centre. In 2026, the school had an enrolment of approximately 120 students and 33 teaching and support staff. The school provides education from Foundation through to Year 12 and offers VCE and VCE Vocational Major programs.
Pyramid Hill College is a small rural P¿12 school located on the northern plains of Victoria. The College serves students from Pyramid Hill and the surrounding farming and rural communities. The school currently has an enrolment of approximately 102 students, with 61 students in the primary cohort and 41 students in the secondary cohort. The College has a small team of teaching and support staff who work closely with students, families and the wider community. The College places a strong emphasis on Respect, Learn and Community and provides a broad curriculum and range of extracurricular opportunities.
Boort District P-12 School is a small rural P-12 school located in north-central Victoria. The school draws students from a wide geographic area, including Pyramid Hill, and provides education from Foundation through to Year 12.In 2026, the school had an enrolment of approximately 184 students and 24 teaching and support staff. The school offers VCE, VCE Vocational Major and VET programs, with additional vocational opportunities provided through the North Central Trade Training Centre. The school has a strong focus on student achievement, resilience, independence and community participation, with the motto ¿Achieving Excellence Together¿.
