Medical Review is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, for and is responsible for assessing a driver’s ‘fitness to drive’ in accordance with the national medical licensing standards.
About the Role
Under the direction of the Team Leader Medical Review, the Medical Review Officer will review and process Medical Review cases, making fitness to drive decisions in accordance with legislative requirements, guidelines, established policies, business rules, and work instructions.
Cases will be considered and evaluated on an individual basis. The Medical Review Officer will also manage Medical Review driving test bookings, scheduling appointments within Victoria. This role will liaise with and provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders and customers in relation to the Victorian fitness to drive portfolio, with exceptional customer service whilst ensuring the accuracy and privacy of all information kept by the Department is maintained.
The Medical Review Officer will participate in team activities and initiate, participate and support change initiatives.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
•Exercise professional judgement when reviewing and resolving Medical Review cases, making fitness to drive decisions in accordance with legislative requirements, established policies, business rules, and work instructions in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
•Understand and accurately assess health information, communication and correspondence received from customers and stakeholders and provide specialist advice in accordance with guidelines, policies, legislation and procedures.
•Contact customers and schedule on road driving test appointments within Victoria for colleagues that work remotely and ensure that all driving test outcomes are updated accurately within DTP systems. You must have the ability to schedule appointments efficiently for remote workers that travel the state, including language interpreters if required and accommodation for long distance travel.
•Prepare accurate and easy to understand correspondence to customers and stakeholders.
•Escalate identified issues to supervisor as appropriate.
•Proactively initiate and support change to process and customer service delivery using appropriate methods.
•Work collaboratively as an effective team member to achieve key team and individual performance targets, supporting and participating in team activities to meet team objectives. Provide guidance and support to less experienced staff as necessary.
•Develop and maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant systems and all aspects of the Medical Review portfolio.
•Ensure privacy of sensitive and personal information is maintained by operating within established policies and business rules, in line with relevant legislation.
•In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.
