Museums Victoria is seeking a Media and Communications Support Officer.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Museums Victoria's mission by supporting the Media and Communications team in delivering high-impact public relations and communications strategies. Working under the guidance of a Senior Media and Communications Officer, the position focuses on promoting Museums Victoria's exhibitions, programs, events, and the groundbreaking work of the Museums Victoria Research Institute. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and enhancing the public image and reputation of the organization, driving visitation, and increasing public engagement through strategic campaigns and activations across a diverse media landscape.
Some of the key duties include:
- Assist the Marketing and Communications department with the implementation of campaign strategies.
- Provide administration assistance and support to the media and communications team in the areas of invoicing, budget tracking, media monitoring and reporting.
- Proactively manage and triage the media inbox and manage incoming media enquiries with the support of Senior Media and Communications Officers.
- Develop communications materials and assets for distribution, including drafting media releases, eDMs, pitch plans and related materials.
- Supervise media and production agencies visiting Museum Victoria venues and ensure they comply with filming and photographic guidelines.
- Contribute to MV's social media presence by working with the digital team and sharing engaging, relevant content that the Media team is working on.
- Assist cross-functional teams in the development and delivery of assets across media, marketing and social media to promote small-scale public programs and exhibitions.
- Proactively monitor media coverage and manage KPI reporting to ensure all activity is captured.
- Create and contribute to media reports and perform basic data analysis to contextualise and assess outcomes of activities, including weekly media reports, board reports and post campaign reports.
- Assist with internal communications channels including Town Hall meetings, Viva Engage, Musenet and more.
- Liaise with influencers / influencer agencies to coordinate visits at each museum site and track results.
- Assist with the coordination of events including guest list / RSVP management and invitation distribution.
- Contribute to a positive team culture and support key divisional activities.
- Comply with Museum Victoria's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.
The successful applicant will have:
- Proven administration skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and establish good relations with others; including internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated thorough understanding and keen interest of the media landscape, including online, TV, radio, print, online and social.
- Strong interest and understanding of current social media platforms and the various formats of posts.
- Creative thinking as well as creative content production skills in video or photo
production and written communications.
- Knowledge and understanding of current trends in cultural, arts, media, leisure, tourism and related industries.
- Analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or possess equivalent experience in one or more of these fields will be highly regarded.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a VPS2.1, full-time, fixed-term position until 26 February, 2027. The salary offered is $60,295 + 12% Superannuation.
