Communications and Customer Experience lead best-practice communications and engagement to connect DTP with our people, customers, industry partners and communities. About the role
This is a Fixed Term Part time (3 days a week) Position until March 27
Join our high-performing Media team as a Media Adviser and play a key role in shaping how we communicate with Victorians. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll craft clear, compelling content on operational and policy matters, manage media enquiries, and deliver timely network updates. Working closely with journalists and senior leaders, you’ll prepare media releases, responses, briefs and Q&As to tight deadlines. You’ll provide strategic media advice, coach executives for interviews, and identify proactive opportunities while managing emerging reputational risks. This role suits an experienced media professional or journalist with exceptional writing, sound judgement, and the ability to simplify complex information under pressure.
Apply sound research and written communications skills to produce accurate, easily understood media materials, such as responses, releases, event briefs and Questions and Answer (Q and A) documents, to tight deadlines.
Position Accountabilities
• Develop and implement media relations projects and initiatives and contribute to strategies for key Departmental business areas, projects and programs
• Provide sound media and communications advice and coaching to senior managers to carry out media interviews and briefings.
• Exercise professional independent judgement to identify proactive media opportunities and escalate emerging media and reputational issues.
Key Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience in media issues management, including preparing high-quality responses to media enquiries and delivering communications that promote organisational objectives across multiple channels.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information subject to public scrutiny, manage sensitive issues, and communicate with credibility and impact. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills are essential, alongside the ability to build collaborative relationships, provide constructive feedback, and support others in challenging situations.
This role requires creativity, resilience, sound judgement, and an understanding of political and organisational contexts. Proven capability in project delivery, time management, independent work, and team leadership support is also required.
